'Vines in the Valley'

'Vines in the Valley'

This series was interesting, in that, I actually created the second piece first, then the others came afterwards. The collection together is meant to tell a story about the stages of transitioning from pain or grief to joy. This piece, ‘Vines in the Valley’ is the beginning of that journey. There is a sense of somber isolation. You can’t tell if the subject is being pulled down by the vines below, or if she is emerging, but what you can see is that she still has hope as she reaches out to touch the light of an unknown source. This collection of pieces was inspired by stained glass windows in churches and how each pane illustrates a certain story. I framed each painting in a ‘window pane of gold’ (gold foil).
